Why We Brought Thomas Wood to HYE Aero

Blog

Most aviation hires get announced with a press release and a handshake photo. We're doing this differently because the decision behind it matters more than the headline.

When you operate a boutique brokerage, every person on the team shapes the client experience. There's no layer of junior associates to hide behind. There's no volume to mask a weak hire. The people we bring in are the people who sit across from our clients, review their logbooks, advise on their next aircraft, and protect their interests through every stage of ownership.

That's why this matters.

The Problem With How Most Owners Get Advised

Private aviation has a quiet problem. As the industry grows, the depth of expertise behind each transaction often shrinks. Owners get handed off to representatives who learned the business through CRM software, not flight operations. Decisions get made by people who've never managed a Part 91 fleet, never flown the aircraft they're recommending, and never sat in an owner's seat watching costs unfold in real time.

The result is predictable. Owners receive surface-level guidance on multi-million dollar decisions. Mission profiles get misread. Maintenance realities get glossed over. And the relationship ends the moment the deal closes.

We've built HYE Aero to operate the opposite way. Fewer clients. Deeper expertise. Real ownership experience behind every recommendation.

Bringing Thomas Wood on as Private Client Director is the next step in that commitment.

Three Decades of Real Aviation Experience

Thomas brings more than 30 years in the industry, with experience that spans flight operations, aircraft management, and client advisory work. He's been a pilot. He's been an instructor. He's managed aircraft on behalf of owners and understands the day-to-day realities most brokers only describe in slide decks.

That background matters because it changes how he advises clients. When Thomas reviews an acquisition, he sees more than specs and price. He sees the operational picture: how the aircraft will actually be flown, what maintenance cycles will look like, where the long-term costs hide, and which decisions today affect resale value years from now.

This is the kind of perspective owners deserve. And it's the kind of perspective that's increasingly rare in the brokerage world.

What This Means for HYE Aero Clients

Founded in 2025 by aviation entrepreneur Matt Stringfellow, HYE Aero has grown from a solo operation into a four-person team in less than a year. The growth has been intentional and measured. We're not trying to be the largest brokerage. We're trying to be the most trusted.

"Bringing Tom on board is a major step forward for us," said Stringfellow. "His experience, professionalism, and passion for client service align perfectly with the culture we're building at HYE Aero."

In his role as Private Client Director, Thomas will work directly with HYE Aero clients across the full spectrum of ownership, from acquisition strategy to management decisions to long-term aviation planning.

"HYE Aero has built an impressive reputation in a short time," said Wood. "I look forward to contributing to that growth while delivering the highest level of service."

Building a Brokerage With Purpose

Growth, for us, is only valuable if it deepens the experience our clients receive. That's why every hire at HYE Aero is selected with the same standard we apply to the aircraft we represent. Quality over volume. Substance over presentation. Relationships over transactions.

It's also why we operate with purpose beyond the deal. HYE Aero donates 10% of all profits to the HYE Aero Foundation, supporting organizations focused on mental health and cancer. Every transaction we complete contributes to something larger than the next sale.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to. And with Thomas now part of the team, it's a standard we're better equipped than ever to deliver.
